We get a lot of kind, concerned comments about Ben's newly discovered condition. I totally appreciate people's compassion for our situation. It is, for example, sometimes pretty crazy prepping to leave the house with a newborn and a diabetic. Ben however, has been nothing short of amazing through it all. Here's some of the things I've learned from his condition.
3. When you love someone, you can do a lot of things you never thought possible (like, say...giving someone several shots a day).
4. Things you persist in doing really do become easier (Thank goodness. Ben really didn't like a needle "wiggling" in his arm from all my shaking).
5. Seeing your child deal with a challenge can open your eyes to who they really are and their potential.
6. Admist the lemons, there's plenty of lemonade to be made (like presents in the hospital, getting to know the fabulous school nurse, FREE cute mini blood testers and cheap diabetic summer camps with air-conditioned buses)
7. Don't read too much about any condition on the internet unless you enjoy freaking out.
8. If you want to REALLY count your blessings, hang out in a children's hospital for a few days.
9. The thing about burdens being made light is real.
10. Wonderful, in tune people are a huge reason for #9
11. A loving Heavenly Father is the other.
"...thou knowest the goodness of God; and he shall consecrate thine affictions for thy gain."

If life gives you lemonade, opt for almonds. :-) Mom
Great insights, all very true! It's amazing the things we can handle (even if we wouldn't have picked them in the first place).
What? I had no idea poor little Ben had diabetes. What troopers you are!
I didn't know Ben had diabetes... So do I but mine is type 2 and I am old so no one really cares! It is so different when a little one gets something like this. But kids are so resilient and adaptable. Look at Jennifer and how she can do everything anyone else can. Theirs is an amazing generation!
